My First Swedish Axe

My First Swedish Axe

I saw on the BCUSA forums that Sportsman's Guide had a Swedish military Surplus axe for sale for about $24.00.  Bernard Ten Bears ordered one and had great things to say about it, minus the handle.  I hit up Mrs. Hotel for an early birthday present and she, being the CFO of the house, agreed to let me buy one.

I immediately placed my order and SG let me know that they were back ordered for a month.  Bummer.  So I waited, not-so-patiently and checked my email every day.

Soon enough, it arrived.

For $26.00, you can't beat the head on this axe.  Here it is, including the sheath that came with it.

I've heard that this is a Hults-Bruks.
The paint will have to come off.

Almost no cheek.

The handle is a little short, but I like it.  It does have large dings taken out of it.  I will initially sand it, then put on a new haft.  I think this one calls for an upper end haft.

Stay tuned.  I'll be working on this one throughout the week.

Pax Domini Sit Semper Vobiscum,

Mike, Oscar, Hotel.....out.

  1. If I'm seeing correctly, it should make a good chopper.
