Dinner in the Winter Kitchen

Today in the News:  I'm not putting out notices on forums anymore when there is a new blog up, which, of course, will lower numbers.  Got in trouble a few too many times, and I'm doing my best to respect the rules of the forums I love, so, if you made here, welcome. Please hit "follow" in the upper right hand corner.  We have some really good guest writers from time to time and even the occasional prize.  If you want to write a guest article, hit me at house.of.howes@hotmail.com .

Link of the Day:  A Woodsrunner's Diary .  Le Loup Chimes in here often, and if you've read his posts, you know he knows his stuff.  I spent several hours on his blog the other night checking out all of his content.  He is a real traditionalist.  Beyond that, he just wrote a book on primitive fire lighting - and it is VERY affordable, especially if you download it.  Stop in, read, tell him I sent you.

Dinner in the Winter Kitchen

Well, he didn't say his name was Dinner, but dang.....how about this with a little steak sauce?

He appeared to be by himself, which I would think was because he was near the end of the rut.  The back of his pelt was extremely sun bleached - and a little beat up.  His legs appeared to be greasy.  Not sure what that's all about.

There are three brothers, at least that's what a wise neighbor calls them - that have been around for years.  We see them just about every spring when they are sleek with beautiful coats.  This guy looked battle-hardened and had a big shaggy beard.  He was big, and believe me, I didn't get that close.  Don't want to end up a news story.

  1. wow, he just waltzed right up on you? Wish that had happened to me Saturday morning, all I saw were two white-tail doe's and I can't shoot them.

  2. You ought to see my self-control go out the door when I have 10 mule deer standing in my yard!
