Yard Sale Crossbow - $10.00!

Today in the News:  I got nothin'.

Link of the Day:  If I don't shave soon, I'll look like the missing link.

I've said it before and I'll say it again - I LOVE yard sales.  Granted, sometimes you have to hit 50 of them to get one good thing, but when you find that good thing.......that's all that counts.  Last year I got two Gransfors camp axe handles for $4.00.  Deal.

This year I was poking around a "I'm not native American, but sure wish I was" yard sales.  Dreamcatchers, skulls, phony drums....you get the idea.  When I move into a sale, I always do my primary walk, the quick walk to scan for anything that jumps out at you, then I slow down, for the dig.  This came up in the dig:

Price tag of $10.00.  I couldn't even talk the guy down at that price.  While it wasn't perfect, it would do the trick.  I always worry about stupid things like what if the government collapses and a man has to provide for himself.  Hunting quietly (poaching) is one of the things I've thought about.  This fits the bill.

The bow piece itself is made from aluminum and the stock or body seems to be home made.  It doesn't fit me well.  The stock needs to be extended and shaped for cheek fit, but as it is, I can pull it off.

So, I've never used a crossbow and this was the only way I could easily cock it.

Ready.

Aim.

Fire.

She's about six inches low.  We'll work on that.

Pax Domini Sit Semper Vobiscum,

Mike, Oscar, Hotel....out.

  1. You need to fit a stirrup so you don't have to stand on the bow.
    Excellent find, well done.

  2. Ah! A stirrup! Probably also explains why it is shooting a little off! Thanks Le Loup!
